Budget Beats Brand in Monitor Battle

Envision launches value-seeker's guide to purchasing a computer monitor

Fremont, CA June 10, 2003 - Consumers are not persuaded by brand name alone when purchasing a monitor, according to research by Envision Monitors.

The company surveyed 972 home and small business users about their monitor evaluation and purchasing processes. Less than 1% of the respondents considered brand name to be the most important factor.

Image quality and price were the leading considerations when purchasing a monitor. Of those surveyed, 58% stated that image quality is the most important factor. Price was the second top concern, cited by 19% of the respondents, ahead of screen size, design / ergonomics, brand name and warranty.

The survey also indicated that consumers are selective when purchasing a new monitor, with 52% evaluating four or more monitors before the final purchase.

Based on the survey results and feedback from customers, Envision has launched a guide entitled, 'More Bang for Your Monitor Buck; The Value-Seeker's Guide to Buying a Computer Monitor'. This guide details tips on what to look for in a PC display, including screen size, display qualities and warranty, and how to find the best value when making the final purchase.

"Consumers have become much smarter about purchasing monitors. Based on our survey, it's clear that monitor manufacturers cannot ride on their brand names alone," said Michael Lien, retail sales director for Envision. "Our research indicates computer users are in fact quite value-savvy. We want to ensure that consumers know how to find the right monitor that not only fits their needs, but also stays within their budgets. Our monitor purchasing guide will help them do so."
